Policy Support for Voluntary, Temporary Firearm Storage

When partners feel confident, communities gain options.

Firearm shops and ranges often want to help by offering temporary storage, but questions about legal risk naturally give them pause. The Armory Project partners with communities to explore practical policy changes so participating businesses can offer voluntary, temporary storage options with more clarity and confidence.

What policy support looks like

TAP works with community partners to explore state-level policy changes that help clarify how voluntary out-of-home firearm storage options can work and address liability concerns that may hinder participation. Our goal is to reduce friction for the partners who want to play a role in suicide prevention while maintaining a respect for personal rights.
